Are you protected from dangerous UV rays whilst driving?

24 Jan 2019

A widely construed thought of car window tinting is that it is only used for ‘style’ purposes however it is much more than just a fashion item.

When window film is applied to your car it blocks more than 99% of the suns damaging UVA & UVB rays.

Science has shown that our bodies need the sun. But the sun’s rays are also a dangerous threat to our largest organ (skin). Shortwave ultraviolet (UVB) rays can cause visible skin to burn, but longer wavelength ultraviolet (UVA) rays cumulatively penetrate our skin and can mean severe risks: the possibility of skin cancer, premature ageing or increased risk of other skin diseases.

Windscreens are typically manufactured in a way that includes UV protection however automotive side windows are generally made of another type of glass which lacks UV protection.

While UVB rays do not penetrate the glass of automotive side windows, most people are unaware that the sun’s harmful UVA rays actually do penetrate the glass and do cause cumulative damage.

Skin cancer in the most common form of cancer in the UK and rates continue to rise. Scientific research shows that drivers are especially vulnerable on the window side of their bodies, where they are exposed to harmful UVA rays through side windows in cars, which are typically unprotected.

UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin and can silently accelerate the ageing process and even cause skin cancer. UVA rays create long-term damage that is not immediately noticeable. Many people don’t realize their skin is getting damaged from sitting near windows in cars.

Our Solution:

The application of window film to your car will protect not only yourself (the driver) but your passengers whilst out on the road.

At ADS we have a full range of shades available for car window tinting so all windows (excluding the windscreen) can be tinted legally for the ultimate protection.

For the front windows our UV Protection film which has a clear appearance and is virtually undetectable cuts out 99.9% of damaging UV rays. Although it is not a safety film, it can hold fragments of broken glass together in the event of an accident.

For the rear windows, any shade can be applied legally. This ranges from the darkest 5% Limo Black shade to a light 50% Charcoal effect. The percentages indicate the visible light transmission of the window film… e.g. 5% only lets in 5% of light from outside the car. Similarly, with our UV protection film, our charcoal window films act as a personal bodyguard providing effective protection against shards of broken glass in the event of an accident. Additionally, the darker films provide fewer opportunities for thieves as optimised protection against break-in means greater security for your valuables.
