Woodlands School – Coloured Window Film Installation
Situation – We were approached by the Headmaster at Woodlands School because he wanted to find an ascetically pleasing solution to a problem. Woodlands School provides a specialist education for children with physical and sensory difficulties and the Headmaster was looking for a solution to help visually impaired pupils with their orientation and, at the same time, enhance their surroundings. He also needed to do something about the heat from the glass covered corridors, especially in the summer months.
Solution – An application of coloured film to the windows and roof lights with an external 35 window film over the top. As you can see, this created an incredible colourful space which is sensorially pleasing and, at the same time, is helping to keep the building cool. This is a perfect example of how you can upgrade glazing to reduce heat gain without having to replace all the glass and it shows too how exciting it can change the appearance of the glass by using colour. External window film is designed for durability in exterior applications and not only does the film reduce heat, it provides 99% UV Protection and reduced glare. The overall effect was striking.
Feedback- “The children and staff love the new colours and we have been treated to a sunny day where they have shown the film at its best. Several children simply sat in a particular colour puddle on the floor and refused to move! It has made our school complete. There are now clear visual zones for our visually impaired pupils and this has helped greatly.”
